5 Day Devotional for The Unified Church (Part 1): A Prayer for Unity

5 Day Devotional for The Unified Church (Part 1): A Prayer for Unity

Day 1: United in Identity
Reading: John 17:9-11, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Devotional: As we begin this journey, let's reflect on our true identity in Christ. Jesus prayed for us to be united in Him, recognizing that we belong to God. Our primary identity isn't found in our jobs, hobbies, or affiliations, but in being children of God. Today, consider how this truth changes your perspective. How does knowing you are "bought with a price" impact your daily choices? Pray for a renewed sense of belonging to God and unity with fellow believers.

Day 2: Sanctified in Truth

Reading: John 17:14-19, Philippians 3:12-14
Devotional: Jesus prayed for our sanctification through God's truth. This ongoing process of becoming more like Christ is a journey we're all on together. Reflect on your own path of sanctification. Where have you seen growth? Where do you still struggle? Remember, even Paul acknowledged he hadn't "already attained" perfection. Take comfort in knowing that sanctification is a lifelong process, and we're united in this journey. Ask God to reveal areas where His truth can further transform you.

Day 3: Not of This World
Reading: John 17:14-16, Romans 12:1-2
Devotional: Christ emphasizes that believers are "not of this world." This doesn't mean withdrawing from society, but rather living with different values and priorities. How does your life reflect this distinction? Are there areas where you've conformed to the world's patterns rather than being transformed by God's truth? Pray for discernment to recognize worldly influences and courage to live counter-culturally when needed, always motivated by a biblically defined love for God and others.

Day 4: United in Purpose
Reading: John 17:20-23, Ephesians 4:1-6
Devotional: Jesus' prayer for unity extends beyond His immediate disciples to all believers throughout history. This unity isn't about uniformity, but about a shared purpose and love for Christ. Consider how you contribute to unity within your local church and the broader Body of Christ. Are there any attitudes or actions you have that hinder unity? Ask God to help you "make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" in your relationships with other believers.

Day 5: A Witness to the World
Reading: John 17:21,23, Matthew 5:14-16
Devotional: Our unity as believers serves as a powerful witness to the world about God's love and Christ's mission. When we love one another despite differences, forgive freely, and work together for God's kingdom, we reflect Christ's character. Reflect on opportunities you have to demonstrate this unity in your daily life. How can your relationships with other believers point others to Christ? Pray for the courage and grace to be a living testimony of God's transforming love in a divided world.
